LiMPETS teacher workshop series for 2011-2012

 

Science teachers & educators! 

This school year, learn how to get your students involved in authentic, hands-on scientific investigations at your local beach or tidepool. These workshops are for teachers, grades 6 – college, and educators who are interested in participating in the national marine sanctuary’s LiMPETS (Long-term Monitoring and Experiential Training for Students) programs. 2011-2012 LiMPETS Workshop Series

LiMPETS Introduction to Rocky Intertidal Monitoring
Saturday, February 4th: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Cypress Meadows and Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, San Mateo County

Learn to participate in this in-depth science education program for students. Participants
receive curriculum, learn to correctly identify algae and invertebrates, and practice the
monitoring methods used in the field.

LiMPETS Introduction to Sandy Beach Monitoring
Saturday, March 17th: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sanctuary Office and Crissy Field Beach, San Francisco

Get involved in this exciting science education program for students. Participants receive
our new 5-unit LiMPETS Curriculum and are trained to survey the distribution and
abundance of the Pacific mole crab at one of many monitoring sites along the coast.

Advanced LiMPETS: Rocky Intertidal Data Analysis Activities for the Classroom
Wednesday, March 7th: 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Sanctuary Office, The Presidio, San Francisco

Interested in learning more about the trends revealed by the LiMPETS long-term dataset?
A short presentation will be followed by data analysis activities from the LiMPETS
curriculum and teacher-led investigations of LiMPETS rocky intertidal data.

Cost: Free. $50 stipend per day for all registrants.
Credit: Continuing Education Units available through Dominican University of CA.
